Information for Authors

This webpage consists of information for authors of all accepted papers and posters at ACM-BCB 2021 and associated workshops. Please contact the Proceeding Chairs Anna Ritz ( aritz@reed.edu) or Luca Giancardo ( Luca.Giancardo@uth.tmc.edu ) with any questions.

All accepted conference papers, papers from select workshops, and poster abstracts are also scheduled to appear in ACM Digital Library as part of ACM-BCB 2021 proceedings. The authors of the accepted papers and posters are required to follow the following instructions for (i) completing an ACM copyright form, (ii) submitting a camera-ready version of the paper or poster abstract on EasyChair, and (iii) completing a full conference registration. Note that you must complete the ACM copyright form in order to get the bibstrip for your camera-ready version.

  1. ACM Copyright form:

All accepted papers and abstracts will need to complete an ACM copyright form. The FIRST CORRESPONDING author will soon receive a copyright form from acm@rightsreview.org . As rights management emails are sent from an automated system, there is a chance that emails sent will wind up in SPAM folders. Please make sure that you and your authors set email SPAM settings to allow emails from rightsreview@acm.org .

Upon completion of this form, you will receive an automatically-generated email with the rights and permission information (including the paper citation and DOI information) that should be added to your camera-ready version.

If the copyright form has not been received three business days after your notification of acceptance, please email Kaylin Kolodziejczak (kkolodziejczak@conferencecatalysts.com) with your Easychair submission number, paper title, and the one author who should receive the form.

  2. Camera-ready instructions:

All camera-ready submissions should conform to the ACM Conference Proceedings template (http://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-template ). Regular submissions are limited to 10 pages and short papers are limited to 6 pages in ACM "sigconf" template on 8.5 x 11 inch paper.  The version should also contain the rights and permission information which is provided upon completing the ACM copyright form (see (1) above). Authors are requested to upload the camera ready version as an update to the original submission on Easychair.

Main conference papers: The camera-ready version of all papers should be submitted on Easychair by June 15, 2021. Regular submissions are limited to 10 pages and short papers are limited to 6 pages. Additional pages (up to 2 pages) can be purchased at registration time for an added cost of 100 USD per page.

Posters: The camera-ready version of the one-page abstract should be submitted by June 15, 2021. Abstracts must follow the ACM Conference Proceedings template.

  3. Registration requirement:

Each accepted conference paper, highlight paper, workshop paper, or poster must be accompanied by a full conference registration at one of the following author registration rates:

    Author: ACM/SIGBio member:     250 USD
    Author: Non-ACM/SIGBio member:     300 USD

Each registration covers the cost for the entire conference including main conference paper sessions, plenary sessions, workshops, tutorials, and posters. Note that one registration can cover up to two submissions. Additional submissions can be registered at a fixed rate of 100 USD per submission. As an example, if an author is an ACM/SIGBio member with 5 accepted  posters, then the associated cost of registration will be 550 USD in total ($250 for the first two  posters + $300 for the remaining three posters).

Each conference paper/ poster/ workshop must have at least one dedicated author registration by June 15, 2021. Authors need to supply the confirmation code at the time of submitting their camera-ready version. Please visit the conference registration webpage for more details.

  4. Presentation Submissions:

Keynotes: Keynote presentations have the option to present live or submit a pre-recording of their presentation. If you are a Keynote speaker that intends on submitting a recording, please notify the conference manager at kkolodziejczak@conferencecatalysts.com no later than June 15, 2021.

Tutorials: Tutorial presentations will be conducted live and require no additional submissions.

Conference papers, highlights, and workshops:   An electronic video recording for the paper talk must be submitted by the authors by July 2, 2021. The talk video is expected to be approximately 20 minutes (for regular papers) and 12 minutes (for short papers). Precise instructions to upload will be posted on the conference webpage soon. All submitted recordings will undergo a quality review prior to becoming part of the virtual program.

Posters: A PDF visual poster of your work must be uploaded by June 15, 2021 for regular posters, and July 5, 2021 for late-break posters. Precise instructions to upload will be posted on the conference webpage soon.

  5. During the Conference:

Paper Presentations and Q&A in virtual mode: Due to COVID-19, the conference and all its associated events will be held virtually this year. During the conference dates (August 1-4, 2021), all registered attendees will have full access to the virtual program through our virtual platform. Each paper will be assigned into a paper session and the virtual platform will replay the recorded talks for the papers in that session during your allotted times. Each paper talk will then be followed by a live Q&A session during which the registered author for the paper (identified as the speaker) must be available to take questions live and answer them through the virtual platform. In addition, the virtual platform will provide ways to engage and interact with the broader audience through a chat/discussion function.

Poster presentations: Posters PDF’s will be posted on the virtual platform at the start of the conference to be viewed on-demand throughout the entire conference. Attendees can interact with poster authors via the ‘Conversation’ tab beneath each poster presentation.
